CUSTOM, 1982 Yamaha Virago
PHASE 1 - THE VISION. THE TEAR DOWN.
Custom Bike Steve:
“The motorcycle began life as a 1982 Yamaha XV 750 Virago. I stripped it back to its bare frame, and of its necessary brackets and clamps. A new seat subframe and seat pan was fabricated and also new tank mounts, to accept the fuel tank’s altered position.
The battery and electrics are now hidden under the fuel tank.”
PHASE 2 - THE FABRICATION.
“The front end of the bike is from a 2005 Honda CBR 1000; the headstock is modified to fit the Virago frame. The front brake callipers are re-built, and racing brake lines are fitted.
Rear suspension has now a single YSS shock absorber. A keyless ignition backed by a moto gadget, mini speedo and fairy lights. The engine casings have been vapour blasted and cylinders finished in a Satin Black.
I’ve filled in the back wheel with aluminium, cutting two stainless steel discs to give the bike a more solid feel and different look.
I’m spending a couple of days now on the electrics…
I’ve moved the foot rests and gear brake linkage.”
“The exhaust system has been made to enhance the look and also for performance alongside with the custom built RAM air intake system.
I’ve got a few things left to do with the electrics before lighting her up on Tuesday!”
“Almost there”
PHASE 3 - INTRODUCING THE FINISHED CUSTOM VIRAGO.
“I’ve had the Virago out for its first run. The overall feeling of the bike is awesome. The V-twin motor is smooth and the torquey clutch and gearbox work very smooth with the exhaust note.
The ride just made me grin and to watch passers-by stop and stare. The Virago’s a talking point wherever it be parked.”
